The Steering Committee

The Steering Committee of the CGIAR Regional Program for Central Asia and the Caucasus provides guidance for the Program and oversees its governance. It holds overall responsibility for the Program. In particular, the Committee:

Members of the Steering Committee include heads of agricultural research institutions of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, as well as directors-general of international agricultural research centers.

15th Steering Committee Meeting

4-6 September 2012, Issyk-Kyl, Kyrgyzstan

Introduction

The 15th annual Steering Committee Meeting of the CGIAR Regional Program for Central Asia and the Caucasus will be held on 4-6 September 2012 at Issyk-Kul Lake in Kyrgyzstan. The meeting is being co-organized jointly with the Ministry of Agriculture and Melioration of Kyrgyzstan.

The Steering Committee provides guidance and governance of the Program and holds the overall responsibility for the Program. In particular, the Committee:

  • Provides overall strategic, technical and policy guidance to the operations;
  • Reviews the progress made in the Program on the basis of annual reports prepared by the Program Facilitation Unit (PFU);
  • Provides broad guidelines and takes decisions regarding the general scope of activities;
  • Develops a coherent framework plan of activities and budget for three years, in particular aimed at implementation of the relevant CGIAR Research Programs in the CAC Region, monitors and evaluates progress;
  • Debates and identifies emerging research issues and priorities relevant for the Program and how to address them;
  • Provides policy or technical inputs to key Regional or global processes, such as the implementation framework of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification;
  • Approves a three-year budget for the PFU;
  • Mandates, oversees and evaluates the Program Facilitation Unit.

Senior officials responsible for agricultural research and innovation from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan as well as Directors General or their representatives from the participating international agricultural research centers will attend in their capacity as members of the Steering Committee. A number of development, donor and partner international research agencies will also attend the meeting as observers.

14th Steering Committee Meeting

20-22 September 2011, Tashkent, Uzbekistan

Introduction

The 14th Steering Committee meeting of the CGIAR Regional Collaborative Research Program for Central Asia and the Caucasus (CAC Program) was held in Tashkent, 20-22 September 2011.

Heads of the National Agricultural Research Systems from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, the host country, as well as Directors General or their representatives from the International Agricultural Research Centers attended the meeting in their capacity as members of the Program Steering Committee. Partners from a wider range of international research and development agencies also joined.

The meeting sessions took place on 20 and 21 September 2011, followed by a field tour to a few demonstration sites in the Tashkent district, on 22 September. An overview of Program's activities and achievements was presented on the first day. The second day provided an opportunity to discuss future priorities of collaborative agricultural research-for-development in the Region, including governance of the Program, its mode of operation and budget.
